Top 5 Key Trends For A Boy's Room in 2018

Being a mother to a 5-year-old boy, I have found it challenging styling up William's room. What do I look for? Functional, cool, stylish and timeless pieces come to mind with a splash of fun. So to kickoff the year I set myself a task to create a few boys room looks, to inspire you that I hope you will love as much as I do. Here are 5 key trends this year for boy’s rooms.

In 2018  we think monochrome tones will feature prominently within any child’s bedroom. It’s all about balancing tones, textures and contrasting prints which will create a harmonious timeless space that can easily be modified over the years, as your child grows. We have opted for a palette of Silver, White and Petrol Blue as shown, and highlights of natural timber & rattan for added texture and warmth. Our Addison House Bed has been decked out in bed linen & décor from Numero 74 and Muskhane. These exceptional ranges are high quality, in soft natural fabrics with a lovely attention to detail, all hand-made by the talented artisans of Nepal.

A generation of environmentally aware parents are searching for products that make less impact on the planet whilst also remaining fun and entertaining for their children. Wooden toys made in natural sustainable materials are proving to be popular and also make beautiful stylish décor items. Creative play is also encouraged with these toys, which also helps develop patience and fine motor skills. Shown here are some examples of our hand-made wool felt mushrooms & plain balls, wooden vehicles, wooden tea set and luggy baskets for wheeling around.

Whilst most boys tend to be active and love outdoor play, allocating a little down time for reading or simply chilling is very important for their development, and our sanity! Create a place of harmony within their room where they feel comfortable to relax and chill out. A reading nook with a few futons & cushions for them to lie in and you can add a canopy or teepee for a little fun, and a bean bag or ottoman are other items you may use which can also be used in other living spaces.

Every room needs a bookcase or shelf and to that end we carry a range of functional furniture that  make a statement all on their own. Encourage reading by having books nicely displayed within hands reach for them, and add a few soft toys to add a playful touch. The Bookworm Bookcase is neat and functional, suitable for any room of the house or the ever popular Ubabub booksee shelves are also very functional.

What child doesn’t love animals? There has been an explosion of animal characters appearing in interiors whether they are within wall paper designs, murals, soft cuddly creatures or in printed linen. And they are beautifully illustrated within its natural environment within a jungle, forest or in the deep blue sea. There are some lovely pieces due later this year from Numero 74 where the sea creatures are made as oversized soft toys. Perfect for any young one to snuggle up to.
